2012 Suzuki Kizashi Brake Pads and Rotors in Winter Park: When a Simple Brake Job Turns Into Preventative Maintenance
A 2012 Suzuki Kizashi was scheduled for a routine brake service in Winter Park. The customer was experiencing the usual signs: reduced braking performance, noise when stopping, and visible wear on the rotors.
Once we got the vehicle lifted and the wheels off, it was clear this was a full brake job. Pads were worn down, and the rotors had already developed noticeable wear patterns.
We went ahead with replacing both the brake pads and rotors, but like most jobs, this one revealed a couple of additional things worth noting along the way.
What We Found Right Away
From the moment the wheels came off, you could see the condition of the braking system.
The rotors had visible wear marks and uneven surface contact, which is a sign they’ve gone past the point of resurfacing. Brake pads were also near the end of their life, which is typically when performance drops and noise starts.
This is a very common scenario. Pads and rotors wear together, and replacing both at the same time ensures proper contact and braking efficiency. (All Rotors)
Trying to reuse worn rotors with new pads often leads to vibration, noise, and reduced lifespan of the new pads.
The Brake Replacement Process
This Kizashi followed a standard brake service procedure:
- Lift the vehicle and remove the wheels
- Remove the brake caliper and bracket
- Remove worn brake pads
- Remove old rotors
- Clean hub surface to ensure proper rotor seating
- Install new rotors
- Install new brake pads with proper lubrication
- Reassemble caliper and torque all bolts to spec
- Repeat on all four corners
- Test braking system
One thing we always pay attention to is the hub surface behind the rotor. Any rust or debris there can cause the rotor to sit unevenly, leading to vibration during braking.
Why Replacing Pads and Rotors Together Matters
Brake pads and rotors are designed to wear together.
The Kizashi uses standard disc brakes with either ceramic or semi-metallic pads, both of which rely on a smooth rotor surface for proper contact and heat dissipation. (O’Reilly Auto Parts)
When rotors are worn or grooved, they reduce the effectiveness of new pads and can cause uneven braking.
Replacing both at the same time restores full braking performance and ensures everything wears evenly moving forward.
Additional Recommendations: Rear Shocks and Valve Cover
While performing the brake job, we also did a full visual inspection of the vehicle.
Two things stood out:
Rear shocks showed signs of wear. Over time, shocks lose their ability to control suspension movement, which can lead to a rough ride and reduced stability, especially during braking.
There was also early indication of a valve cover seep. This is typically seen as light oil residue around the engine components. It’s not urgent right now, but it’s something the customer should plan to address before it becomes a larger leak.
This is why inspections during routine maintenance are so important. Catching these early can save time and money later.
The Result
Once everything was installed and torqued down, the difference was immediate.
The braking felt smooth, consistent, and responsive. No noise, no vibration, just solid stopping power like the car was designed for.
That’s always the goal with a proper brake job.
